The photo that inspired this painting was taken of my family while we were white water rafting in Yosemite National Park circa 2001.  Being in this rushing river was my earliest memory experiencing the true power of water.  You can see the raft and people scratched back into the clayboard in the center of the painting.
 
Drawing from personal experiences and collective memories, I aim to evoke a sense of nostalgia and contemplation in my artwork.  Through layers of transparent watercolor, opaque acrylic/gouache, and subtle scratching applied to the clayboard, I seek to transport viewers to a dreamscape where the boundaries between memory and reality blur.
