Inspired by a 1947 postcard depicting the coastline just north of Pfeiffer in Big Sur, this painting reflects my memory of standing above the Pacific where land gives way to open water. This stretch of coastline holds memories from my years living in San Francisco, and those impressions shape the painting as much as the postcard itself.
The curve of the shoreline and the sweep of sky are softened into atmosphere rather than strict detail, allowing distance to feel expansive and unhurried. It holds the quiet meeting of cliff and ocean—a place where memory and landscape become one.
