This painting depicts Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, a form that first etched itself into my memory during a family trip decades ago and deepened with a return visit alongside my husband in 2012. The image is drawn from a film photograph my father took in 1998. Revisiting these photographs through paint has become an act of memory mapping—tracing past vacations and reworking moments that surface unevenly over time, some clearly recalled, others softly fading into impression.
Rooted in personal experience and shared memory, my work is intended to evoke quiet nostalgia and reflection. Through layered washes of transparent watercolor, passages of opaque acrylic and gouache, and subtle marks scratched into clayboard, the paintings invite viewers into a dreamlike space where memory and reality gently overlap.
