This painting depicts a view from Yosemite National Park’s Mist Trail and draws from a film photograph my father took in 1998. The image captures my brother turning back toward him, rendered as a white figure scratched into the clayboard surface, with other hikers faintly etched in the distance. The warm orange passage along the right edge echoes a light leak from the original photograph. Reworking these details has become an act of memory mapping for me—returning to family trips and tracing moments both clearly remembered and softly fading, allowing the painting to hold space for what remains.
Rooted in personal experience and shared memory, my work is intended to evoke quiet nostalgia and reflection. Through layered washes of transparent watercolor, passages of opaque acrylic and gouache, and subtle marks scratched into clayboard, the paintings invite viewers into a dreamlike space where memory and reality gently overlap.
