Inspired by a 1947 postcard depicting the coastline just north of Pfeiffer in Big Sur, this painting reflects a memory of standing above the Pacific where land gives way to open water. This stretch of coast holds memories from my years living in San Francisco, and those impressions inform the painting as much as the postcard itself. The curve of the shoreline and the sweep of sky are softened into atmosphere rather than strict detail, allowing distance to feel expansive and unhurried. It holds the quiet tension of cliff and ocean — a place where edge and horizon meet.
