This painting draws from a photograph taken of my family while whitewater rafting in Yosemite National Park around 2001. Being immersed in the rushing river marked my earliest memory of encountering the true power of water. The raft and figures are subtly scratched back into the clayboard at the center of the composition, allowing the moment to surface quietly—part recollection, part impression, held in layers of memory.
Rooted in personal experience and shared memory, my work is intended to evoke quiet nostalgia and reflection. Through layered washes of transparent watercolor, passages of opaque acrylic and gouache, and subtle marks scratched into clayboard, the paintings invite viewers into a dreamlike space where memory and reality gently overlap.
